Hello and welcome to South Valley Acupuncture!

I'd like to introduce myself and share my story of how I started working in this incredible field of holistic medicine. After graduating from The Ohio State University with B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1992, I started suffering from a myriad of digestive complaints which led to anemia, fatigue, and further endocrine issues. I saw many doctors and was given conventional medicine to treat my symptoms but no one could tell me what was causing my problem.

I was determined to figure out the root cause. Finally, at wit's end, through a friend's advice I decided to try acupuncture to help regulate my digestion, sleep, and stress. The treatments, the use of Chinese herbal medicine and changes in my diet helped me immensely. I was amazed of how great I felt and through more and more research and testing, my acupuncturist and I had figured out I was suffering from Celiac Disease, an autoimmune disorder. It was in 2003, after 12 years of working in corporate America, that I decided to take a giant leap of faith and follow my passion to pursue a career in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to help others.

After taking that leap of faith, I worked onboard a cruise ship treating thousands of patients from all over the world for 12 years. In 2020, I moved to Utah, and worked at a clinic providing both Chinese Medicine and Functional Medicine, incorporating the best of both worlds. I finally opened my own practice and couldn’t be more grateful I did. I am both empathetic and compassionate, and dedicated to bringing health and healing to my patients.

Professional Philosophy and Experience

Making lasting changes to your lifestyle is difficult. We are all creatures of habit. I am passionate about helping people make that change: that compelling event in their lives that teaches them how to reach their full potential. Acupuncture is a catalyst; it creates movement and gives people the ability to make that change. With a combination of treatments, herbal medicine, nutritional guidelines, meditation, and movement, people can live their life to the fullest. It is my goal to work one-on-one with patients to pluck them out of their everyday stresses and into an environment where it is possible to implement this life change.

Services

Acupuncture is over 3000 years old. Back in the day, we didn’t have X-rays or laboratory testing. Chinese doctors had to observe the body over and over. They started to look at the body in the same way that kings looked at their country. The kings thought, how do we get food and water out to our people? We need to build rivers and roads, and each city should have a function. Doctors started to look at the body in the same way. They thought, when we eat and drink, there has to be a way that gets food, water, and nutrition to every area of the body. So they developed system by palpating the body and found that when they stimulated one point on the body it affected another point along what they call a meridian or channel. Each of these channels then correspond and affect an organ. The entire system consists of over 400 points and 16 meridians. Free flow of energy or “Qi” and blood through a meridian or channel is healthy. If that energy or blood became stagnant, it could manifest as any imbalance in the body, things like pain, diarrhea, incontinence, headaches, etc. Acupuncture, the use of ultra thin needles in these points helps to stimulate the flow of Qi and blood though these channels.

Today, studies have shown that a release of endorphins and serotonin happens in the brain when have a treatment of acupuncture. Just by placing a needle in your body, the brain will you react by sending blood circulation around it, thereby stimulating your body’s healing process. They didn’t know about these things 3000 years ago, but they saw that patient’s got better. It wouldn’t be around today if it didn’t work!
